Discover your Ayurveda body type and live your best life
When you know your body type you can stop being someone else.
What do I mean? Once you know whether your body type is vata, pitta or kapha, you can start living your life in accordance with these body type principles – how we look, where we live, what we eat, our health concerns and how to prevent them, and generally how to live our very best life.
The ancient practice of Ayurveda believes our body, mind and soul are intrinsically connected by a mixture of three fundamental body types we call “doshas”.
They are: Vata, pitta and kapha, and they relate to our physical and personality traits. Each person is made up of different proportions of each body type, but usually one or two tend to dominate.
When our doshas (our body types) are balanced we experience great health – mind, body and spirit. It’s when they aren’t that we feel tired, run down, sick, in pain and a general feeling of being unwell. If left unbalanced, these common concerns can lead to chronic health issues, manifesting into more serious diseases down the track.
Knowing your body type and how to keep it balanced can have many benefits, but ultimately, it helps you heal naturally from the inside out and it treats the root cause of the problem, not just the symptoms you’re experiencing.
It is truly amazing how it works and how the body responds.
So what’s your body type? Here’s a rundown on the three:
VATA BODY TYPE TRAITS
- Thin/light build
- Naturally creative/quick in your thoughts
- Enthusiastic and lively
- Sensitive
- Prefer warm, humid climates
- Dry skin
Out of balance:

As we all have a combination of these body types within each of us, for example, some people are born with a higher proportion of vata and, throughout their lives, their bodies will tend to be thinner and lighter. Those with more kapha tend to put on weight easily. Those with more pitta tend to be hotter and not feel the cold so much.
These differences in the proportions of vata, pitta and kapha are perfectly OK and happen to everyone. But this is where you must know your dominant body type so you can maintain it to stay healthy.
